How can anything described as pain be good for you

January 15th, 2010 - As I continue trying to overcome my own bad habits and join the rest of the so called world, who treat their bodies like temples (yeah temple of doom) I am learning that in order to be making progress you really do have to have pain. And here is the weird thing. People who work out regularly and eat healthy regularly, have some strange beliefs they have adopted. Things that don't sound good, but folks think they are wonderful things to experience.

As an example. I mention (just in passing) that I am in agonizing pain, to which I get asked, "yeah, but is it good pain?". Good Pain, What the heck does that mean. Since when is pain considered good. Then they ask, "are you feeling the burn", with that question they are almost giddy with hope that you will say, "yes, and I love the burn, i just can't get enough of the burn". Are you kidding me. Any fool knows burn equals pain and pain is not good. Is this so hard to comprehend. Next they try to convince me with these soothing words, "don't worry you will look forward to that feeling, where your muscles ache a little, you are a little sore and you have a little pain, and you feel so good". My response is, "what little pain are your talking about, I feel like I was run over by a truck and hung up inside out to drain". You see, I try to tell them, that feel good feeling they boast of, is really adrenaline, trying to keep your heart pumping so you don't die. Let's get real here, pain hurts and sore muscles hurt, and I haven't even touched on the emotional pain of not eating any of the foods you have come to love over the years. But that is a whole new topic.

No there is definitely a lack of comprehension on my part of understanding, it hurts so good. But I am trying, I am embracing feel the pain, feel the burn, no pain no gain, but while I am embracing these new concepts I will continue to slather myself in ben-gay.
