January 26th, 2010 - Today, Christmas is officially over. I have finally taken down the last of the Christmas decorations. I know, you're thinking it is late, but hey, last year they didn't come down til Feb.12th and that was only because I slipped and told my son how pretty the lights looked on the tree at night. He was mortified, Oh my god mom, you don't still turn the lights on the tree, do you? I had to confess. He was over bright and early the next day to help take everything down. Once again, mom outsmarted the fox.
Anyway, now My house looks empty. Well that is my living room, kitchen, bedrooms, family room and bathrooms look empty. My spare room downstairs looks like a bomb went off. You see for me your house is not decorated until it looks like Marshall Fields. You have to a little, well a maybe a lot, of christmas in each room. So the singing toliet paper holder purchase was something I could not pass up. I mean everyone has bathroom christmas towels, but not not many have the toliet paper holder that sings Jingle Bell Rock. Or I really could not pass up the 12 days of Christmas comforter, with the lights, that come on when the room is dark. It looks like a landing strip. Not only can it keep me warm, but it also helps on those nights I can't sleep. Instead of counting sheep I count the 12 days of christmas on my cover. Oh another favorite, I really love the 4 foot santa that bends at the waist and says HO, HO, HO. He is motion sensitive. Once I walked passed him while holding a glass of wine, he bends at the waist, says HO HO HO and I have red wine all over the floor. Santa almost flew without the raindeer that night. All the decorations mean something to me so I find I never get rid of anything and I collect more and more. I have many different snowmans, santas, trees, and bells. One of my grandsons favorite activities is to push all the play buttons on the snowmen and to get 15 snowmen, each singing a differnt song, all playing at once. And then when they finally stop...he does it again. I also have multiple Nativity sets, dishes, glasses, and platters. And of course there are ornaments, garland, bows and wreaths. And that is just on the inside. All of them come out and all of them must be put away.
So I am done, they are all tucked away, ok shoved in the storage room downstairs, safely put until next year. I thought I would be sad to put them all away, and I am a little, but mostly I am hoping that the one snowman, that seems to be at the bottom of the pile, will quit singing. Seems he is stuck, and I am tired. Too tired to dig him out and shove a rag in his mouth. So I will shut the door, go upstairs and hope the battery runs out soon. Only 293 days til I get them out again.
