January 17th, 2010 - I am in Daytona today and have been visiting my grandson for the last couple of days. Therefore it was necessary to do what can be described as an 'Alternative Workout.' Still concentrating on all the important muscle groups just approaching them in a different way.
Time to work the leg muscles (upper thighs and calves) and the arm muscles (triceps and biceps). Begin...Come into the house reach for the new baby, who is already 12 days old, and hold him close to your chest, squeeze, ever so gently, and then hold away from your chest to get a really good look at his face. Repeat 6 to 8 times, and do frequently at least hourly. Next, place the baby down, and walk to the other side of the room. Sit down, hear baby make a slight groan, get up from couch, walk over to baby, pick up, to make sure he is fine, he is, place baby back in the bassinet and walk back to the couch. This repetition is done many times through out the day, mixed in with the repetition of squeeze baby and hold close. Once you have mastered that move, it is time to practice hand dexterity, stretching, and perseverance...or better known as changing the diaper. Place the baby on the changing table, and remove the baby's sleeper and diaper, hold on to his kicking feet, to keep them from landing in the dirty diaper, stretch hand over baby, while holding on to feet, and removing the diaper. Once complete, quickly, and I mean quickly, place new diaper underneath bottom, wipe area clean, and put new diaper over the geiser, which could go off at a moments notice. This maneuver will be repeated 10 to 12 times through out the day. Causing you to really appreciate disposable diapers. And, lastly, we have the overall body endurance exercise. Or putting the baby to sleep before you go to sleep. Yes, after doing all the above activity, you may feel tired, worn out, and ready for a nap. Problem is it is only 10:00 a.m., you need to be strong and endure. This will only go on for another 10 to 12 hours, and then, once the baby is down for the night (which is only 3 to 4 hours) you can get your sleep. Not during his last feeding, not while pacing the floor hoping he will quiet down, and no not by placing baby on your tummy so you can rest. Once safely tucked away in his bed, you can rest your head on the pillow and sleepppp. That is until he groans, and you repeat what you have learned above.
Yes, this has been a new workout routine, but will only be done a few days and I am back to the gym and the machines. On the other hand, the new parents, will be following this routine for many months to come. Hoping that Grandma comes once more to do her Alternative Work Out.
