A day with the grandkids

August 8th, 2010 - Ahh, ready for a nice relaxing day. It is Sunday, going to do a little cooking, maybe read my book or watch a cooking show. Definitely Relax and chill. But my granddaughter has a different idea, and when she smiles and me and says can we spend the day together, well I am putty, who wants to relax when I can have a whole day with my granddaughter.

She rushes off to get ready, in her floor length sundress, with the flower flip flops, and I say, "looks good to me, but you might be a little cold". No problem she puts a pull over sweater over her yellow sundress. She is styling, as you know there are no fashion faux pas for children. Since, I know she will want to bake, we stop at the store before going to my house. In the store we get the cookie dough, some squirt on frosting, and some sprinkles. In addition, she needed a small cake, some chips, a new flashlight, a ball, some lipstick and purse, juice, string cheese, and of course some yogurt for healty eating. Once I get to the check out I also see we have some stickers, animal crackers, and a box of baggies with strawberry shortcake all over them...to pack the cookies in. Once at the house we bake, play on the computer, eat cookies, look at all the jewelry, have a tea party, eat cookies, play ice cream play dough, and yes eat more cookies. Just when we are winding down, the rest of the family comes over and her and her brother begin the entertainment. First they take a bath in the giant pool, you know the one that took over my bathroom with bubbles the other night, well it did it again. I could not even find the kids in the water, they looked like to giant snowmen. Dispite the mess I run and get the camera to capture the moment, laughing all the while. After the bath we all had spaghetti, mistake...lets just say you should always eat the spaghetti before the bath. Then it was showtime, as my grandson and granddaughter entertained me with all their stunts. We had the stand on your head, feet against the wall and one arm behind your back. The push up done by keeping your belly on the floor and raising your head up and down while bending your arms. The splits that are only 8 inches off the ground, the cross, done by holding your legs up in the air while holding on to two chairs, and then my favorite. The almost one handed handstand done by having one foot on the ground and one hand on the ground, while the other foot and hand wave wildly in the air. My grandkids are agile, fearless, and cute as all get out, but they have a ways to go before they master gynmnastics, but the joy in watching them get there is priceless.

I thought I would have a relaxing day, chilling and pampering myself. But I was wrong and it was so much better than what I had planned.
