August 16th, 2010 - Did you ever notice how many people wear clothes that are just a tad, well sometimes more than a tad, too small. Can't figure out if they just can't tell that the pants they are wearing no longer button closed, and are two inches too short and are so tight that if you happened to, well you know, you could rip out the whole back end.
Sometimes, I see people I don't even know and I am embarressed for them. Take the girl I saw at the deli in Jewel. Her jeans looked like they may have been painted on to her body. She had what is lovingly referred to as muffin top, which wouldn't have looked quite so bad, if her shirt would have fit. But her shirt gave her muffin bottom, so between the pants and shirt, they was a huge layer of muffin overflow, not a pretty sight, unless of course it is a real muffin. And there is a particular fellow I know, that insists, on wearing button down shirts, which is really a nice look...when they fit. But when the buttons are pulling, and the sleeves are too short, and the collar couldn't button unless you took two inches off the person's neck, then, not so nice. Or I know a fellow who wears pull over shirts, with the two button neck. Not so bad, until you get to the bottom of his shirt, and it is so short that two inches of his stomach are exposed and you can easily see whether he has an innie or an outie, which is something you really never wanted to know. Some girls wear their tops so tight and shall we say low cut, really low cut, that when talking to them it is difficult to look right at them as your eyes will inevitably drop to where they shouldn't be looking...if you get my drift. Then there are dresses that are so short you think they are blouses, bikinis that can now be called band aids, and shorts in which the pockets hang out because the legs of the shorts are shorter than the actual length of the pocket. Is that really a good look? Do people not realize that well fitting clothes look so much better, that leaving things to the imagination is a good thing, and that from a comfort perspective you will not have the tight bloated feeling when you really wear pants that fit.
Maybe it is just me. I grew up in an era of baggie bell bottoms, big peace signed shirts, long dresses and shorts made of jeans that were rolled at the knee. Sweatshirts were common place and nobody wore anything too tight, maybe with a lot of holes, and fringed bottoms, but not too tight. I thought the new generation was a little more sophisticated in their fashion statements then my generation was, but I realized they are no more sophisticated then we were, just different. As for me, give me a loose pair of jeans, a baggie sweatshirt, and a pair of flip flops and I am good. I can hardly wait to see what the new generation will be wearing....
